Libraries are about creating individualized, equal, and equitable access to resources. Every library patron has a unique need, and not everyone has the resources in order to meet that need. As a library, we build a rapport with the unique individual we are serving to determine what their need is, and we connect the individual with the appropriate resources, people, organizations, and/or technology to meet that need.

Library Station Managers achieve this goal by building relationships with patrons in their community and connecting patrons with resources in a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment.

The Library Station Manager performs paraprofessional work in the public library; and does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

The Library Station Manager oversees the following areas of library operations:

Public Service Management
● Maintains customer service quality
● Supports local events and initiatives by collaborating with organizations and community partners
● Supervises teen volunteers and delegates tasks appropriate to their interests and skills
● Plans and carries out events, classes, and library programs for a wide variety of residents including, youth, teens, and adults
● Has knowledge of and interprets the library system’s policies and procedures for library patrons, volunteers, and staff
● Instructs patrons in the use of library facilities and equipment

Collection Management and Access Services
● Coordinates with the Collection Development and Access Services Manager to supervise weeding projects
● Shelf reads to ensure collection is in correct order
● Provides recommendations for shelving location and findability of the collection
● Provides reference and reader’s advisory services
● Circulates materials
● Places reserves

Building Management
● Manages immediate facility needs with support from the Public Services Manager
● Monitors condition of library equipment; plans for replacements/upgrades
● Notifies Public Services Manager of the condition of, and problems with the facility
● Manages public use of library facilities
● Manages display spaces
● Monitors all equipment (copiers, printers, computers, etc.)
Administrative Responsibilities
● Maintains branch supplies
● Identifies items for future purchases and communicates community needs with the Public Services Manager
● Collects and reports station-specific usage statistics

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; general knowledge of office routine equipment and procedures; ability to interpret and explain library philosophy, policy, and procedures to patrons; ability to perform work requiring considerable detail; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and library patrons

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

LOCATION
Craigsville Library Station; 18 Hidy Street, Craigsville, VA 24430

HOURS
24 Hours/ Week; This is a non-exempt position
The 24 hours is shared between two staff members. Weekly hours are negotiable with a minimum of 4 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week.
Nights and weekends

SALARY/BENEFITS
Starting salary is $13.01/hour.
