Challenges to Broadband Coverage   cell tower2

High speed internet services are provided by businesses that operate within the County.  Although the County has in interest in seeing citizens receive the best high speed internet service possible, it is not a service provider, and therefore does not control expansion of services within the County.

Also, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) data and other state mapping tools have been utilized to document “unserved” areas of the County.  These tools allowed for providers to report areas served by Census Block, so at times overextended the homes noted as “served”. The FCC and state are striving to better the mapping tools to more closely reflect what homes truly have high speed internet available.

The County will continue to partner with providers on future grants to clean up any potential missing areas once the two VATI grants that are under construction are complete.

Providers   cell tower1

Most of the websites have a page to review the internet services they provide.  Some of them also have the ability for the individual to enter their address to see if there is service at their home or place of business.

Local providers:

Satellite companies:

  • ViaSat, Inc.
  • Starlink
  • Hughes Networks Systems, LLC

If you know of another internet provider that is not listed, please contact Augusta County, augustacountycommunications@co.augusta.va.us, 540-245-5610.
