Mini-Bus Driver/Trip Leader

The County of Augusta has openings for a Mini-Bus Driver/Trip Leader in its Parks and Recreation Department. This staff position provides off-site leadership for trip programs to various locations of interest including but not limited to: festivals, theaters, museums, shopping, sightseeing cruises and historical locations. This person transports participants to the specified place of interest, acts as the group chaperone and provides assistance where and when needed. The work is not under immediate supervision and requires attention to detail. The majority of the work will involve interaction with the senior adult population.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Ability to operate a 14 passenger mini bus in a manner that maximizes passenger safety.
• Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all driving laws.
• Capable of driving safely on a variety of roadways, including highways and rural routes, and in a variety of weather conditions.
• Possess a basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and report any vehicle problems to parks and recreation staff in a timely manner.
• Ability to follow written trip instructions and GPS/map directions.
• Verify participant enrollment and responsible for maintaining participant head count throughout duration of the trip.
• Accurately complete reports and driving logs.

Qualifications:

Qualified applicant must be able to establish effective working relationships with community, volunteers, general public and other staff. Applicant must be able to follow directions and possess the ability to manage risk while being customer service orientated and providing great hospitality.

Applicants must be 18 years of age, possess a valid Virginia driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. A CDL endorsement is not required.

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in operating a shuttle, passenger or larger vehicle; or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience providing the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.

Wage/Salary:

This is a part-time position on an as-needed basis with no County benefits. Starting wage is $13.50/hour plus some meal reimbursement and admission to trip venues. The work schedule will vary based on planned trips and outings and includes a variety of weekday, weekend and evening hours. Flexibility is provided in driving schedule to accommodate other personal and/or work commitments.

Candidate will be required to submit to a criminal background check. Employment is dependent on a satisfactory test drive of the minibus and DMV driving record.
