The County of Augusta has an opening for a Programs Coordinator in its Parks and Recreation Department. This staff position will be tasked with coordinating programs and activities for all populations and interests. Responsibilities will be primarily planning, developing and implementing recreational, educational and social programs and small-scale community events. In addition, this position will also be responsible for expanding the department’s instructor-based program offerings and developing their own small-scale community event offerings. This position requires a positive attitude, pleasant demeanor and a commitment to serve the public.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Plans, coordinates, creates, implements, supervises and evaluates a variety of existing and new recreational programs, activities and small-scale community events for families and individuals of all ages.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, instructors, partner organizations, volunteers and patrons. 
• Delivering effective customer service and support by providing information about departmental services, taking registrations and assisting with patron requests and needs.
• Identifying contractors, partnerships and service providers to facilitate programs to expand current program offerings.
• Maintaining database with related program files and records.
• Providing direction and guidance to instructors through clear communication of goals, policies and procedures and recommendations for changes and adjustments to programs.
• Preparing program budgets accurately and ensuring programs operate within the approved budget.
• Scheduling and preparing facilities for program and event needs.
• Maintaining inventory of equipment and confirming availability of adequate supplies to accomplish assigned programs.
• Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to work in a variety of situations amid frequent distractions, interruptions and changing priorities.
• Maintaining familiarity with current best practices and trends for recreational programming.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a general knowledge of recreational and leisure-based activities and demonstrate the development and oversight of programs with measurable outcomes. Qualified applicant must be creative, motivated, have meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Applicant should also have the ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.

Applicants shall have a general knowledge of and familiarity with computers, Microsoft Office and other office equipment. Preferred knowledge of RecTrac or comparable registration software. Applicants must have a valid Virginia driver’s license.

Education & Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, event management, hospitality, sociology, communications, public relations or social work and experience in coordination of recreational programs and activities.

Wage/Salary:
Starting salary is $47,216 with an excellent benefit package including retirement, group life and health insurance and paid leave. The work schedule is weekday hours and at times evenings and weekend hours will be required.

Candidate will have to go through a criminal background check and drug screening. DMV driving record will be requested at time of employment.
