Post Date:04/09/2024 9:00 AM

Augusta County Library encourages all community members to visit their library location during National Library Week, April 7-13, 2024 to explore all they have to offer.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.

Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and ebooks. But there's so much more to the story of libraries. Libraries are welcoming spaces that bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through a variety of programs, services, and resources, including access to meeting rooms, technology, hotspots, nontraditional materials such as mobile hotspots, memory kits, book club kits, Frontier Culture Museum passes, nature backpacks, STEM kits, cake pans, seed libraries, and more!

Augusta County Library is celebrating National Library Week with the announcement of two new services the library will offer, and a library card design contest featuring Lucy the Dinosaur. Voting will occur at all seven library locations.

Beginning Monday, April 8, 2024, the following services will be made available to the public:

Cricut Machine at Fishersville Main Library will be made available to the public as a service to provide the community with access to technology that promotes creativity. This service will be made available by reserving a time to utilize the Cricut. Additional information can be found on the library’s website.

Memory Lab at Stuarts Draft Library Station will be made available to the public as a service to provide access to technology to preserve family and community memories. This service will be available through reservations. Additional information can be found on the library’s website.

“You spoke, and we listened,” says Library Director Dr. Jennifer Brown. “Augusta County Library staff take a community-focused, user-centered approach to create library services the community has expressed interest in. During the strategic planning process we undertook last year, we heard from many community members the desire to capture and preserve local history and community memories, and access to technology for projects and creative endeavors. We hope these two services will support those interests and will set the stage for future services and initiatives to be made available across the county.”
