Plastics will no longer be recycled at the landfill due to changes in recycling markets.

We will continue to collect glass at the collection sites and it will be beneficially used as an intermediate cover for the landfill.

Helping us help the planet:

  • Please empty and rinse food particles from all containers.
  •  Please do not put any plastic bags in the bins even if recyclables are brought to the recycling centers in plastic bags. Plastic bags contaminate the bins and if bins are contaminated, recyclables may be rejected.  That creates difficulty for recycling staff and the value of the recycling decreases.

Augusta County accepts the following categories of recyclables at convenience centers and the landfill recycling public use site:

Aluminum cans should be drained.

Metal cans should be empty and clean.

Mixed paper includes white office paper, colored paper, folders, envelopes (no clasps or metal), newspapers, cereal boxes, phone books, junk mail, ads, and slick paper.  Paper should be clean and contain no food or oil residues.

Waxed coated materials such as milk cartons and pet food bags as well as food boxes such as pizza boxes should be placed with general trash.

Cardboard is corrugated material.  The wavy line between the top and bottom sheets should be visible. Please flatten your boxes.

Glass should be emptied and rinsed.

Styrofoam is not recyclable even though it may be marked with a recycling symbol. Please place Styrofoam with general trash.

Some batteries, electronics (except TVs), motor oil, antifreeze, scrap metal and appliances can all be recycled. Look for each of these designated areas at the Landfill.

Rechargeable batteries can be recycled at the place they were purchased.
