State Code provision §15.2-2230 requires the Comprehensive Plan to be reviewed by the Planning Commission at least once every five years to determine whether or not amendment is needed. Over the course of nearly two years, planning staff and the Planning Commission have engaged various county Boards, Commissions, and staff in the review of the Comprehensive Plan seeking input on the need for revisions from those with specific areas of expertise.

The result has been modifications to the Goals, Objectives, and Policies section of the plan, changes to the Planning Policy Area and Future Land Use maps, and new transportation and housing chapters reflecting the need for additional information required by the State Code.
